Comal County approves transfer for jail training supplements as recruitment continues

The commissioners court approved a line-item transfer on Aug. 6 to fund training supplements for officers who train incoming jail staff. The jail administrator reported that recruitment efforts had recently brought the facility to near 100% staffing for several months but that normal attrition left a few vacancies.
"We will be doing testing in several weeks, and we have 55 applicants that are competing for those few positions that we have," the jail official said, explaining that the transfer will cover the training supplement pay for officers who will train the new hires. The court approved the transfer by voice vote and thanked jail staff for recruitment work.
Staff said the funding will cover training-supplement pay through the remainder of 2026, and that the department will return as needed for additional budget adjustments if circumstances change.
