Sheriff secures warranty, shields and radio-circuit upgrades; court approves funding transfers

Comal County's sheriff requested and the court approved a line-item transfer on Aug. 6 that will fund a Motorola radio-system warranty, 10 rifle-rated shields for school-resource officers, a standalone radio circuit with LTE backup, and five-year commercial data fees for automated-license-plate-reader services.
The sheriff explained the large portion of the transfer covers the radio warranty and that the standalone circuit will provide a backup link to the radio core with LTE failover. "It's actually cheaper than what we're currently paying for that circuit every year, and it will be managed by the vendor," the sheriff said. He added the shields replenish equipment previously reallocated and that longer contracts for in-car video will standardize service and costs.
The court approved the transfer by voice vote. Staff will proceed with the purchases and contract adjustments consistent with procurement rules.
