Comal County approves application for Texas Department of Agriculture home-delivered meals grant

The court approved a resolution authorizing the county grant program year 2027 application to the Texas Department of Agriculture's Home Delivered Meals program; the Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation said it provided more than 10,700 meals last quarter and is on pace for over 40,000 meals annually.
The commissioners court on Aug. 6 approved Resolution No. 2026-615 to apply for Texas Department of Agriculture funding under the "Texas Texans Feeding Texans Home Delivered Meals" program for program year 2027.
Chris Smith, executive director of the Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation, told the court the nonprofit operates the 710 Landa center and is one of the county's meal providers. "Just last quarter, including home-delivered and our congregate meal, we did 10,722 meals free of charge," Smith said, adding the organization is on pace to deliver over 40,000 meals in Comal County this year.
Commissioner Webb moved approval; the court approved the resolution by voice vote and thanked Smith and his staff for the program. Staff said the grant will help supplement meal-delivery operations for eligible seniors.
