Comal County approves PTZ cameras and flood-monitoring nodes for dams and Cibolo Creek

Comal County commissioners approved the purchase of nine pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, six flood-monitoring nodes at county-maintained dams, and three monitoring nodes along the Cibolo Creek on Aug. 6.
Emergency-management staff said the purchases come from the county's 2026 capital-equipment budget and do not require a budget amendment. "These are the locations — the dams — we have cameras that will be out there so we can see what's happening at the dams during a flood event," staff said. The nodes will provide inundation-area water-level monitoring and help emergency management with situational awareness during storm events.
Staff noted the county continues to pursue funding from the Texas Water Development Board for related monitoring, but the current request draws on budgeted items from the 2026 emergency-management line. The court approved the action by voice vote.
