Comal County court sets public hearings on proposed 0.305015 tax rate
Summary
Commissioners voted to consider a proposed 2026 tax rate of 0.305015 per $100 valuation and set public hearings for the budget and tax rate on Aug. 20 and Sept. 3; the judge said the calculation is affected this year by state exemptions and an unusual sales-tax influx.

The Comal County commissioners court voted Aug. 6 to set public hearings to consider a proposed tax rate of 0.305015 per $100 valuation and to publish required notices under state law.
"The recommended budget proposes the same tax rate as last year, which is 0.305015," the county judge said during the presentation. The judge explained that the state-mandated "no new revenue" and "voter approval" rates are influenced by recent changes in state exemptions and an atypical sales-tax increase that complicates the calculation.
Commissioner Hogg moved to set the proposed tax rate for consideration with hearings scheduled for Aug. 20 (budget hearing) and Sept. 3 (adopted proposed tax-rate hearing); the motion carried with a voice/raise-hand vote. Commissioners and staff discussed slide wording showing an estimated $1,865,874 (1.7%) increase in property-tax revenue compared with last year's budget and clarified that about $33,981,210 was shown as revenue from new property on the tax roll, while parts of the slide were described in the meeting as confusing and reviewed by county attorneys.
The court directed staff to publish the required notices and post the proposed rate and budget materials to the county website ahead of the public hearings.
