Kincaid trustees hear plan to return sidewalk grant and reapply for up to $500,000 forgiveness

Pezze and Treasurer Beverly Merano cautioned that the larger award is not guaranteed and that any grant reapplication could mean forfeiting the current $250,000 award.
"If we drop and return the money that we have on this project that we have to use by next year then we could file again next year which would put it out a year further; if we get it but if we get it, it would be up to $500.000 and be total forgiveness, wouldn’t cost us a penny," Pezze said. Trustees asked whether previously spent engineering fees (about $91,000) could be covered; Merano said the earlier engineering could be charged to the grant if the village receives the award but warned that returning current funds and failing to secure the larger grant would leave the village without that funding. The board agreed to request that Daniel Luka attend a meeting to explain timelines and conditions before making a decision.
