County staff previews canine statue meant for sheriff's office lawn; unveiling planned in October

Tracy Gibbons updated the Comal County Commissioners Court that a community-funded canine statue intended for the lawn in front of the sheriff's office is nearing completion. She said the sculpture, modeled after a dog known as "Canine King," is being bronzed at the Omega Foundry in Stephenville and the foundry expected to complete work in time for delivery on Oct. 9 and an unveiling on Oct. 10.
Gibbons said the statue materials and base have been donated by community members and that a granite base has already been ordered and paid for; the county will provide a concrete foundation at the planned site. "Everything that's going into the statue is donated by the community, so it's not costing the county anything," she told the court. Commissioners thanked staff and volunteers who helped secure county permission and move the project forward.
