Washington County board approves multiple backfill hires, moves clerk reclassification to full board

The Washington County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 6 approved a series of staffing backfill requests across several county departments and moved a clerk reclassification to the full board for final consideration.

Chair opened the meeting and ran through a set of motions covering vacancies in buildings and grounds, the treasurer’s office, the Department of Social Services and veterans services. "We have a building maintenance helper, vacated on July 30 due to a resignation," Presenter said when introducing the first request for buildings and grounds, which the board approved after a motion and second. Presenter also described a Deputy County Treasurer set to vacate Aug. 27 "due to a promotion pending a board resolution," and asked the board to approve backfill for that position.

Social services staffing was addressed in several items: Presenter described a case worker vacancy effective Aug. 19, a Community Services Worker vacancy from July 14 and a Senior Social Services Examiner who resigned July 26, and the board approved each requested backfill. Presenter told supervisors the clerk’s office had fallen from six full-time staff to four and asked that an archives clerk be reclassified to an account clerk to increase flexibility; that request was carried forward to the full board.

Before adjourning the public portion, Chair requested a motion to enter executive session for matters involving medical, financial or employment history of particular individuals; the board voted to go into executive session. "The basis is the medical financial... employment history of a particular person," a staff member summarized when explaining the executive-session topic.
