The Planning Commission reorganized its leadership at the June 9 meeting, unanimously appointing Robert Sherrard as chair and Dorinal Hernandez as vice chair for the 2025–26 year. The administrative actions, taken at the start of the session, followed an announced set of new council appointments and included a brief roll call and thanks to outgoing commissioner Q Smith for her service.
After confirming a quorum and approving the consent calendar, the new chair presided over the night’s agenda items, including the high-profile public hearing for the Shell station at 2194 University Avenue. Commission procedural questions arose later in the meeting during motions and a point-of-order about handling competing motions; staff advised that written findings should be prepared to document the commission’s bases for denial.
