Southwest ISD recognizes students, staff and accepts $25,000 Assistance League grant

The Southwest Independent School District Board opened its May 20 meeting with a series of recognitions. Students honored included Iker Fuentes (Sun Valley Elementary), Matthew Rodriguez (Scobee Middle School), and Jason Eslora-Castillo (CAST STEM High School). Daniela Olivo was named salutatorian and Jose Espitia Jr. was named valedictorian of Southwest Legacy High School. Rising Stars with perfect attendance included Miracle Virginia Lopez (Sky Harbour Elementary), Gilbert Mendez (McNair Middle School), and Christian Gonzales (CAST STEM High School). The board also recognized the Penguin Project students for receiving the Magna Silver Award from the National School Boards Association conference in Atlanta.
Representatives from the Assistance League of San Antonio—Kathy Bustos, Ruth Heller, Jo McCollum and Linda Patton—were recognized for awarding Southwest ISD a $25,000 grant through the Enhanced Learning Program to support district-wide elementary hands-on learning experiences (examples listed: iFly, Pinstack, Twin Lakes). An AV technician, Mathew Campos, was also noted for assisting with photography at the Southwest High School boys soccer state semifinal.
