Police chief previews National Night Out, Auto Show and staff changes

Police Chief Gene Karzin reported on departmental activities and community events at the July 21 council meeting.
Karzin provided a JDC recap, saying staff conducted a 'hot wash' with JDC administration and partner agencies to review what went right and what could be improved. He also announced that Patrick Robinson will retire at the end of the month after about 15 years with the JDC and that the department bought him a cake to mark the occasion.
Chief Karzin announced several community events: National Night Out on August 4, for which the department is working to expand participation by inviting businesses to host tents and activities; an Auto Show planned for August 15; and an IMPACT Conference at Augustana College featuring the brother of Chris Farley as a speaker on addiction. Karzin described the IMPACT Conference as directed primarily to law enforcement, fire and medical personnel but said councils and mayors were invited.
