Assessor John Killeen told the Chemung Township Board that "The McHenry County Office of Assessments has announced it will no longer be mailing the assessment notices," a change the assessor said removes a common trigger for the 30-day appeal window and the summary of exemptions and contact information.
Killeen urged the board to consider options for notifying residents, including a request to vote at the next monthly meeting on whether the township should publish notices for about 4,000 parcels at township expense. He also noted the Board of Review hearings at the county level are complete and that the 2025 assessments have been certified to the township clerk. "Please encourage people to call this office with questions or concerns on their assessed value," Killeen said.
