Board forms PA-198 committee to negotiate SAAB incentives; commissioners appointed

The Crawford County Board of Commissioners agreed to form a PA-198 committee to evaluate potential tax-capture incentives for SAAB and related industrial development district matters. Commissioner Moore moved and Commissioner Moeller seconded the motion to appoint Commissioners Kraycs and Frederick to the committee; the motion passed by roll call with Commissioner Lewis absent. County Controller Paul Compo said he plans to attend Grayling Charter Township meetings on the county’s behalf as the township and county indicated they do not want local taxes captured under the proposed agreement.
Commissioner Kraycs and Commissioner Frederick will join representatives from the township, NEMCOG and possibly the local school district in negotiations. The board recorded that Grayling Charter Township has already established an Industrial Development District and that any PA-198 agreement must be in place within six months of initial construction to access state incentives.
