After a Public Works Subcommittee recommendation and a public hearing with no speakers, the City Council approved making Clay Street one-way from Bowman Street to Fair Street and designating the odd-numbered side from Bowman to Fair as no parking.
Staff noted Clay Street is only 15 feet wide, and two-way traffic with parking on both sides presents safety concerns; limiting the street to one-way traffic with parking on one side was recommended to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety. Certified letters had been sent to affected property owners and the estimated cost for signs is $500 to be charged to the Public Works regulatory sign budget. The motion passed with five votes in favor; Councilor Soucy was not in the room for the vote.
The council's action moves the item from subcommittee recommendation to implementation; Public Works will schedule signage installation.
