Council approves street closures and waives event fees for spring community events

Councilor Bogert moved to approve Temporary Traffic Order 2026-01 for Love Our Earth Day (May 9, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.) and to waive the $200 Special Events fee and $10 loudspeaker fee; the motion passed 6-0. The council likewise approved Temporary Traffic Order 2026-04 for the Laconia Little League Parade (April 18, with a rain date of April 25) and a Canal Street closure for Lakes Region Community College's graduation on May 16 (Temporary Traffic Order 2026-05). City Manager Kirk Beattie confirmed the college notified Canal Street and Main Street businesses and that no negative comments had been received.
Council said the approvals will allow organizers to proceed with event logistics and that the city will support public outreach to affected businesses when road closures occur.
