Town raises tire-recycling fees; Casella mattress charges flagged for 2027

The town’s solid waste manager reported that Casella currently treats mattresses at municipal solid-waste pricing but that mattress-recycling costs (shipping to Connecticut for disassembly) will likely increase in 2027 and may carry a processing fee of about $40 per mattress. The manager said the current contract runs through 2027 and that the town has not yet been charged the higher mattress fee.
The manager proposed updated tire fees to reflect collection and processing costs: $6 for car/light-truck tires, $8 for heavy truck tires, $20 for light equipment, $150 for heavy equipment, and double rates for rims. The board voted to approve the proposed tire fee schedule and asked the manager to update the town’s communications channels about tire-recycling opportunities.
"They're gonna have to stay dry and all that kind of fun stuff," the manager said when discussing future mattress handling requirements, and later confirmed he would post the updated fees on the town Facebook page and update briefing materials.
