GoGo Veterans pilot near launch; details on eligibility and travel range to be finalized

Christian Farrell, Director of the Veterans Service Agency, presented a brief update on the GoGo Veterans Pilot Program and said legal review by the county Law Department was close to completion. He said the pilot ‘‘will enable veterans to go to places besides medical appointments, Castle Point and the VA Hospital in the Bronx,’’ and that transportation services would be provided through Uber or Lyft.
A committee member asked whether seniors who are veterans could use both the GoGo Veterans program and the Office for the Aging’s GoGo Grandparents program; Farrell said the programs are separate and that he would confirm eligibility with the Director of the Office for the Aging. Farrell added that while he would favor permitting out-of-state travel, that allowance will depend on contract terms and therefore is not final.
David Andryshak, Cemetery Superintendent for the Veterans Service Agency, reported storm-related fallen trees at the cemetery had been removed and that no headstones were damaged; professional tree services have offered to grind remaining stumps.
