Resident seeks Select Board support for preserving historic 'Squeaks House'

"Squeaks House, also known as the Ezekiel Glacier House, is 1 of the oldest buildings in Londonderry," Richard said, and reported a structural engineer's assessment that the foundation is failing though the overall structure is in reasonably good shape. He said he is working with a historic-preservation consultant on a determination of eligibility and has reached out to Preservation Trust of Vermont and other grant sources to explore funding. Richard suggested potential uses that have been discussed — including a small museum or public restrooms to support the nearby farmers' market — and asked the board for guidance on town involvement and ownership options.
Board members said they supported preservation work in principle and suggested involving the historical society and other partners; no formal commitment of town funds was made during the meeting.
