Orange County social services report: April caseloads, housing placements and fraud reviews detailed

Lacey Trimble, Commissioner of Social Services and Mental Health, told the Human Services Committee that ‘‘Temporary and Family Assistance was provided to 1,557 cases in April’’ and that 16 recipients entered employment that month. She also reported that 17,821 cases received SNAP benefits and Orange County had 19,514 Medicaid recipients in April.
Trimble outlined housing and shelter metrics: hotel/motel placements in April were 116 for families and 214 for singles; emergency housing placement averages were 19.5 for families and 49.1 for singles. She said the Housing Access Voucher Pilot Program has 11 families placed in permanent housing, with four pending inspections and paperwork and 12 families still searching for apartments.
Trimble also summarized protective- and benefits-related caseloads: foster care at 122 cases, Adult Protective Services at 233, Home Care at 318, and Child Support with 9,072 cases that collected and dispersed $3.5 million in April. On program integrity, she reported the Front-End Detection System (FEDS) and Eligibility Verification Review (EVR) investigated 175 cases in April; 85 investigations substantiated fraud and 63 resulted in overpayment findings.
Acting Chairperson Genisis Ramos asked about the Orange County Fuel Fund; Trimble said she ‘‘has not received any additional requests for assistance since HEAP season ended.’’ The committee did not take further action on fuel assistance during the meeting.
