District seeks Department of Justice SVPP grant to complete safety systems; $500,000 grant would need $170,000 match

Superintendent Meckley updated the board on a pending Department of Justice School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) grant — often called the COPS grant — that the district applied for to finish school-safety infrastructure work. She said the proposed budget totals $670,000: $500,000 from the grant with a $170,000 local match drawn from fund 274 if the district is awarded the grant.
Meckley said the funds would help complete emergency alert systems, speaker and paging installations and other infrastructure started under a previous grant. She noted the award decision for the new application will be announced in November and that if the district does not receive the grant, those projects will need to be funded from the district's capital lists and prioritized accordingly.
