Superintendent reports 13 physical restraints, zero seclusions for 2025–26; board hears training plans

Superintendent Meckley presented the district's required annual restraint and seclusion report and said that for the 2025–26 year the district recorded 13 restraints and zero seclusions. "'25, 26, we had 13 restraints,'" Meckley said, adding that restraints are used as a last resort to prevent imminent harm.
Meckley told the board 11 different students were involved in those incidents and that two of the restraints were performed by guests in the room — behavior consultants who were not trained district staff. She said the district uses Safety Care and will expand de-escalation training, planning two hours of training for the entire staff and continued targeted training for staff who need restraint skills.
