The board accepted a $50,000 Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation Early Education and Schools grant to support the district’s English learner (EL) preschool. The grant will fund a preschool curriculum called "Frog Street," pay for an additional EL preschool paraprofessional, and allow the district to enroll up to 24 peer-mentor preschoolers (goal: six in each of four classes) whose families would pay $30 per month tuition.
Board minutes name Dr. David Sotutu as instrumental in carrying out the grant and record board approval to allocate 3% ($1,500) of the award from the general fund as compensation to him for administrative and coordination duties. The motion passed unanimously.
