Ward 2 councilmember Kyla Clark said the city has launched its first multicultural advisory committee to make municipal programs and events more inclusive. "We have started our 1st multicultural advisory committee to reflect and to really show the diversity that's here," Clark said, noting the committee’s purpose is to "bring in all the voices" and foster conversations about living and flourishing together in Laurel.
Clark described Baltimore Avenue as an example of the ward’s cultural mix and said the committee will help the city tap into local restaurants, businesses and community leaders when planning events and services. The committee is intended to inform programming and outreach rather than replace existing boards, Clark said, and she encouraged residents to get involved through town halls and the city’s event calendar.
