Council Member Mike Mumper said NIES Engineering is nearing completion of consolidated plans that combine two grant-funded water projects. The project is awaiting permit approval from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and an EPA review of the plans.
If reviews and permits proceed on schedule, the village hopes to solicit bids by the end of August and begin construction shortly after Labor Day. Mumper noted rising project costs while the village waits for funding decisions, which has prompted prior discussions about potentially issuing a bond to cover cost increases.
