Council approves up-to-$35,000 contract for Stop 43 boardwalk and stairs

The Village Council on May 8 approved a contract to construct a boardwalk and stairs at beach access Stop 43, awarding a $33,000 quote to contractor John Yanz with a not-to-exceed cap of $35,000.
Council member Brian Cassidy described site improvements that include a larger drywell, a retaining wall to hold back sand, an 80-foot boardwalk and stairs descending to the beach. Cassidy moved to accept the quote, and Council recorded a roll-call vote of four yeas and zero nays.
The work follows completed stair installations at other access points and preparatory site work reported by Street Superintendent Rick Reitz, who said crews have been clearing debris, completing meter readings and preparing Stop 43 for construction. Council also discussed removing exposed metal at Stop 40 and scheduled outreach to obtain quotes for remediation.
"Brian made a motion to approve the quote from John Yanz for $33,000 for the construction of the boardwalk and stairs at Stop 43, and not to exceed $35,000," according to the meeting record.
Council indicated the East Court paving is planned as a final phase of the Stop 43 project and said progress will be monitored; the council did not attach additional funding conditions beyond the approved cap.
