Pleasanton ISD trustees elect Ralph Unger president in 4-3 vote; officers named

Ralph Unger was elected president of the Pleasanton Independent School District Board of Trustees during the board's May 11, 2026 regular meeting. Trustee Pete Pawelek moved "I move to nominate Ralph Unger as Board President." Loren Gillespie seconded the motion; the motion carried 4-3, with yes votes from Pete Pawelek, Loren Gillespie, Ralph Unger and Robert E. Serna Jr. and no votes from Amanda Pawelek, Patrick Hurley Jr. and Jessica Tom.
Trustees also selected officers for the other board positions. After a declined nomination for vice president, Trustee Jessica Tom moved to nominate Patrick Hurley as vice president; the motion, seconded by Amanda Pawelek, passed 7-0. Patrick Hurley was then nominated and approved unanimously as board vice president. Later, Hurley moved to nominate Jessica Tom as board secretary; Ralph Unger seconded and the motion carried 7-0.
The votes reset the board's leadership with a split decision for president but unanimous support for vice president and secretary. The elected officers will serve according to the board's bylaws and customary terms until the next reorganization or election of officers.
