Cottonwood County approves hires, appointment and temporary unpaid time for new staff

County Coordinator Kelly Thongvivong reported Joe Riihl accepted the Building and Grounds Worker position and began employment April 6, 2026. Because Riihl had approximately eight days of previously planned time off, the board unanimously allowed him to use up to 64 hours of unpaid time between April 6 and Sept. 30, 2026.
The board also approved hiring an applicant as a part‑time Jailer/Dispatcher at Range 12, step Minimum ($25.85 per hour), pending successful completion of all hiring requirements; the specific hire name and start date will be presented at the next meeting. Separately, the board adopted Resolution 26‑04‑07A recommending appointment of Andy Geiger to the Red Rock Rural Water System Board of Commissioners; the resolution is on file in the County Coordinator’s office.
