Interim County Engineer Stephen Schnieder briefed the Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners on planned upgrades to railroad crossings on County State-Aid Highways 2 and 8, providing preliminary construction cost estimates of $240,000 and $440,000 respectively. Schnieder told the board that pavement replacement occurring within the State’s right of way would be funded by State Aid funds, whereas pavement replacement in the railroad’s right of way would be the county’s responsibility.
Matt Ashton, representing New Vision Co-op, explained how construction will affect the cooperative’s operations and asked to be involved in further planning. The board reached consensus to continue developing plans for the CR 8 crossing and to include New Vision in all aspects of the planning process. The discussion identified potential grant funding opportunities but did not authorize construction spending at this meeting.
