Engineer Adam Ossola reported May 26 that he spoke with an IDNR representative and learned there are no ongoing legal restrictions from IDNR’s prior reclamation work on the former dump property, but that the agency recommends annual mowing of the lime‑stabilized cap to prevent root growth from damaging the cap and to contact IDNR if sinkholes or other problems appear.
Ossola also said NCICG has inquired about CDBG project submissions due in August and that the board discussed possible sewer replacement or lining. The board raised concerns about a $3,600 survey fee and the time required to obtain permits from the railroad and Illinois Department of Transportation, so they placed the survey on hold and directed Ossola to proceed with permit applications. On the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) work, the board noted that Gillans is expected to finish dirt work, Smiths will receive the contract, and the Village will pay Gillans $1,000 toward a cement pad.
