Ladd wins Safe Routes to School funding; village to plan sidewalks and traffic garden

Village President Frank Cattani announced at the May 12 meeting that Ladd has been awarded Safe Routes to School funding to support sidewalk improvements. Clerk Rhonda Bezely later restated that the village would receive $250,000 to continue sidewalks on East Cleveland Street and $23,300 in a non-infrastructure grant to fund a Traffic Garden and a storage trailer for bicycling outreach.
President Cattani said the village hopes to get permitting in place to reach the railroad tracks and noted planning steps: a kickoff meeting with the State, plan preparation to be approved later in the year, and a spring bid letting ahead of construction. The board discussed timing for permitting and long-term plans to make the route contiguous across tracks for a future application.
Officials said the grants will fund design and construction of pedestrian improvements on East Cleveland Street and traffic-safety education assets. The village will coordinate state-required planning and bidding steps and will announce further dates when plans are finalized.
