Leakey ISD to replace TCL and Hisense TVs after state cybersecurity guidance; replacements staged to avoid compromising security

During the district technology report Feb. 23, Superintendent Christopher Yeschke informed trustees that several TCL and Hisense brand televisions used by Leakey ISD are included on the Governor's Prohibited Technologies List issued by the Texas Cybersecurity Division and must be removed.
Yeschke said some of the affected TVs function as monitors for the district’s security camera system and directed staff not to remove them until replacement monitors are installed, to avoid compromising campus security. He estimated replacement cost at approximately $6,000 and said the district anticipates procuring Samsung monitors that are not on the prohibited list. Yeschke also noted the district is issuing new Centegix identification cards with replaceable batteries to address a prior battery-life issue.
Board members discussed website usability and access to board contact information while staff noted archived agendas and materials are retained to limit clutter on the public site.
