Superintendent Christopher Yeschke and district staff recognized six teachers at the Feb. 23 Board meeting for earning designation under the Texas Incentive Allotment (TIA) program. The designated teachers recognized were Kara Guerra, Monica Leiker, Carrie Fleming, Rebekah Hooten, Heidi Dugat and Melissa Matter.
Katie Loughner explained the designation process and scoring: designation is based on a 10-point scoring system processed through the Texas Tech accountability system, and the district’s submission earned the required threshold. Loughner emphasized that the numerical data does not capture “the early mornings, late evenings, tutoring, and personal sacrifices these educators make daily.”
Superintendent Yeschke announced the district will supplement the state TIA stipend with an additional $3,500 district stipend; he said the estimated state stipend is approximately $6,700, making the combined first-year total roughly $10,200 before taxes. Yeschke also said all TIA disbursements are TRS-eligible and explained the timing: the first-year stipend will be paid by Aug. 31, with subsequent-year disbursements paid in May as a lump sum.
Board members congratulated the teachers and thanked Mrs. Loughner for her work facilitating the district’s TIA application.
