Leakey ISD recognizes dual-enrollment students and staff

Melissa Matter, the district's dual enrollment instructor, presented details of the program offered in partnership with Southwest Texas Junior College. She said 17 high school students were enrolled in College Algebra across the full year and 15 students were currently earning credit, with two students within five points of the passing threshold. Matter also reported substantial staff participation: multiple staff members are enrolled in college-level coursework and many are earning credit.
Several students were present and publicly recognized for balancing rigorous college-level expectations with extracurricular commitments, notably basketball players who worked ahead on assignments to accommodate game schedules. Superintendent Chris Yeschke commended the program's rollout, saying it initially faced challenges with the partner college but has "now hit its stride."
