Leakey ISD reports perfect FIRST rating in public hearing

The Leakey Independent School District opened a public hearing Dec. 15 where Superintendent Chris Yeschke presented the district's Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating for the 2023–24 school year. Yeschke said the district received a perfect score of 100 out of 100 points on all financial indicators and an "A" rating with no findings on the 21 accountability factors.
Yeschke noted that reimbursements received by the superintendent and board members (meals and fuel) were reported and that outside compensation, gifts, and business transactions showed no issues or were appropriately documented. "The rating demonstrates superior financial management and transparency," he said. Board President Tim McLaughlin called the hearing to order and a motion to adjourn the public hearing was approved unanimously, 6-0 (moved by Tammie Dugat; seconded by Scott Chisum).
The FIRST presentation preceded the regular meeting and set a positive financial tone for the board's review of audit and budget materials later in the evening. No public comments were made during the hearing.
