Snake River board adopts 2025–26 bus routes, adds Pingree rerun to cut young students' ride times

The Snake River School Board unanimously approved the district's 2025–26 bus routes, turnarounds and safety-busing design at its Aug. 20 meeting, including a new Pingree rerun aimed at shortening rides for younger students.
Gina Dawson, the district's Transportation Supervisor, presented the annual safety-busing review and told the board the state allows exceptions to the 1.5-mile walk rule when highways, railroad tracks or canals create hazards. She said she re-evaluated routes and found "no bus stops that require students to cross Highway 26 or 39," and described steps the district is taking on preventive maintenance, reinforced driving training and student management. Dawson said the Pingree rerun should "minimize ride times to about 45 minutes" for the rerun's roughly 36 students and that the district has hired an additional mechanic to support inspections and upkeep.
Board member Josh Sorensen moved to approve the routes; Carol Hepworth seconded. The board voted 4–0 to adopt the routes and safety busing plan for the coming school year.
Dawson also said the district expects a travel bus to arrive by the end of October and is considering purchasing older buses from a recently closed charter school to bolster the fleet and subbing capacity. She emphasized that "student safety is the heart of every transportation decision" and thanked the board for its support.
