Rodney Erway spoke at the meeting on behalf of Dennis and Kathleen Maher, whose trees were removed by the Town on Hubbard Hill Road. The Mahers reported that rocks and chunks of wood struck their house during removal, that an excavator damaged a newly installed driveway and crossed a newly installed septic leach field, possibly causing damage.
Highway Superintendent Billy Sutphin said the Town's right of way for Town roads is defined as anything within 24 feet, 6 inches from the center of the road and that the Town is responsible for removing obstructions within that area. Sutphin said he attempted to notify the Mahers before removal but could not find them at home; he apologized for the damages and instructed the Mahers to obtain repair estimates so the Town can submit them to its insurance carrier.
