Fire Chief Chad Kooyenga reported that the Fire and Public Works Departments, working with ME Simpson Company, assessed 1,386 hydrants and identified fewer than five percent (65 hydrants) requiring repair or replacement. The Village worked with Reichelt Plumbing to repair or replace four hydrants at a unit cost of $5,850 and proposed repairing an additional eight hydrants during the current year; the funding request was scheduled to be placed on the March 17 VBM agenda.
Chief Kooyenga framed the program as preventive maintenance to ensure hydrant reliability for firefighting operations and public safety. The Committee of the Whole received the proposal and referred it to the March 17 village board meeting for possible funding approval.
