Rockbridge County says two broadband grants will extend service to about 2,000 residents

Spencer, speaking for Rockbridge County administration, told the LEPC the county has two broadband grants under construction: one with BARC that will reach about 300 people and another with BrightSpeed covering about 1,700 residents, primarily on the county's south end.
"Have 2 grants that are under construction, one of them being with BARC, about 300 people will be getting broadband, and the other one is through BrightSpeed, and this will cover about 1,700 people, generally on the south end of the county," Spencer said. He added that the Collierstown Community Connect grant with BARC has been approved and that the contract is pending. County staff also described meetings with scouts, DEQ and others to develop a lake management plan and a dam action plan for Lake Merriweither.
County officials said the projects are in implementation steps and that contracts and construction schedules will determine exact completion dates.
