LEPC advances Intrado 911 mapping for schools, eyes gunshot-detection grant

Nathan Ramsey and school safety staff told the Local Emergency Planning Committee on Sept. 4 that the county is working to integrate Intrado—an app tied directly to the 911 center—into local school response plans.
"This app is directly connected to the 911 Center," said Jason Breeding, the schools' safety coordinator, who reported that 3D mapping of school campuses has been loaded into the system and shared with Lexington Police and Lexington Fire Department. Breeding and other school representatives said the county has been testing the system with 911 staff and that some issues surfaced during testing which they are addressing.
Committee members also discussed pursuing grant funding for gunshot-detection software. Members cited a bus incident during the first week of school that resulted in no injuries as the kind of event that highlights the importance of rapid, mapped situational awareness for first responders. The LEPC asked Chief Handley and school liaisons to continue coordinating with the 911 center on mapping accuracy and to report back at a future meeting.
