Levelland council sets $0.5750 tax-rate ceiling for FY2025/26

After discussion, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Stueart moved to set a tax-rate ceiling of $0.575000 for FY2025/26; Council Member Bill Powell seconded the motion.
The council recorded votes in favor by Bill Powell, Max Ledesma, Breann Buxkemper and Michael Stueart; Council Member Jaime McCabe was absent. The motion carried among members present. Setting the ceiling allows staff and council to proceed with public hearings and further budget decisions while retaining the option to adopt a lower final rate at or before adoption.
Staff had recommended public hearings on the proposed tax rate and the FY26 budget to coincide with the normal adoption process in September.
