The Lake Forest Community High School District 115 Board of Education recognized Lana Hernandez as the district’s student spotlight for September, citing her leadership in the music program and service as a teaching assistant.
Janine Kessler, who nominated Hernandez, said the student "demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Lake Forest High School through her daily actions, leadership, and contribution to our school community." Kessler told the board Hernandez has served as junior drum major, guided the band "with grace and professionalism" and mentors younger musicians in sectional rehearsals. The board presented Hernandez with a certificate and paused for a photo opportunity.
The board also announced a monthly student spotlight program intended to recognize learners who exemplify the district’s mission and values. The nomination process involves staff members submitting candidates from classrooms and programs. The recognition was presented during the opening portion of the Sept. 16 meeting and the board thanked the music department for nominating students.
