Board adopts student device ban, eligibility rule and library materials procedures to comply with state law
Summary
The Board adopted FNCE (Local) pursuant to HB1481 prohibiting students from holding personal communication devices during school hours, revised FD (Local) pursuant to SB401 restricting activity participation to enrolled students, and adopted EFB (Local) pursuant to SB13 establishing library materials selection and challenge procedures.
Superintendent Matt Everett presented several policy changes required by recent legislation and the board adopted them as presented.
Under FNCE (Local) pursuant to HB1481 students may no longer use or even hold personal cell phones or other electronic devices anywhere on campus during school hours. The board also approved a revision to FD (Local) pursuant to SB401 that clarifies students not enrolled in Leverett's Chapel ISD are ineligible to participate in district activities. Finally, the board adopted EFB (Local) pursuant to SB13 establishing the library's procedures for material selection, review and community challenge processes. Jimmie Faye Waller moved to adopt the policies as drafted; Barbara Baker seconded and the motion carried.
