City staff told the council on Nov. 3 that they intend to propose adoption of the 2021 International Building Codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC). Staff cited safety updates, technological advancements, environmental considerations and the practical benefit of aligning Levelland’s code cycle with Lubbock, because many contractors working in Levelland also work in Lubbock and Lubbock has adopted the 2021 cycle and 2020 NEC.
No formal action was taken at the Nov. 3 meeting; staff indicated they anticipate bringing a formal adoption item to the council in December for consideration.
