Levelland council holds hearings on FY2026 budget and tax rate; little public comment

Mayor Breann Buxkemper opened public hearings Monday on the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget and on a proposed tax rate. City Manager James Fisher told the council that "final approval is set for Monday, September 15, 2025," and no action was taken at the Sept. 8 meeting.
The budget hearing closed at 6:10 p.m. with no speakers; the tax-rate hearing was opened at 6:11 p.m. and one resident spoke before the hearing closed at 6:12 p.m. Council did not vote on either item at the meeting; both remain on the agenda for the Sept. 15 meeting. The hearings provided public input and formal notice required under state law.
