City engineer: concept plan for 1,000 poles exists but rollout depends on funding

Damon Geert, who identified himself as president of Metro Consulting Associates and the city engineer, said the current pilot is the start of a longer program and that an internal concept plan anticipates up to 1,000 poles to relight the city when funding permits. He emphasized that planning, permitting and coordination with ongoing water-main work shaped site selection and timing.
"It has not been released," Geert said when asked about the concept plan, noting that the document is internal. He said the project team met with the vendor multiple times over roughly two years to discuss technology, rollout and permitting and that implementation must avoid conflicts with water-main replacements and other infrastructure projects.
Geert also told residents that while the plan aims for citywide coverage, funding constraints mean installations will be phased and prioritized to avoid simultaneous construction on blocks with water-main work.
