The Town Council accepted the Planning Commission’s recommendation and approved a special-exception to allow a motel/motor court at 15630 Old Spotswood Trail, subject to conditions. Neighbor Renee Velker told the commission she had not expected a motel adjacent to her residence and expressed concerns about nighttime traffic, lighting and parking. Evan Lagerloef, the potential buyer, said by phone that "there would be lighting around the parking area such as Ring cameras with flood lights for monitoring" and that the operation would not rent by the room but could have up to three separate bookings for the structures.
The Planning Commission recommended approval with the stipulation limiting bookings to three; council action accepted that recommendation and included the stipulation that paved parking spaces be provided and that the Planning Commission review town code definitions for motels and inns. Council accepted the recommendation on a 5-0 roll call vote.
