Residents press Clark County on noise, lighting and annexation during data center hearing

At the July 8 public hearing, several residents described real-world impacts from existing or proposed data centers and urged strict limits. "I live close to the existing data center, and I have to wear ear plugs at night due to the constant thumping," said Stacey Echelberger of the city of Springfield. Robin Richardson-Coy (Green Township) urged aggressive restrictions on exterior lighting to preserve rural darkness.
Petition efforts were also discussed. Melissa Rexroth (Moorefield Township) said she is circulating a petition to place a citywide ban on future data centers in Springfield and is pursuing a separate statewide petition to ban mega data centers in Ohio; she said the local petition needs 720 valid Springfield signatures to reach the ballot this November. Commissioners and staff described annexation rules and said annexation, if pursued, would be decided through separate municipal processes.
