The North Mankato City Council on July 7 adopted Resolution No. 67-25 authorizing the signing of a joint statement of support for the Age‑Friendly Mankato & North Mankato Coalition.
City Administrator McCann invited Melinda Wedzina, CEO of VINE, to present the initiative and the rationale for the joint signature. Wedzina said the Cities used community feedback from open houses and guidance from more than 20 local leaders to shape the action plan, focusing on social participation, inclusion and communication. She told the Council that "16.4% of North Mankato residents are 65 or older compared to Mankato’s 12.6%." The initiative seeks outside funding and will recruit local connectors to reduce isolation among older residents.
Council Member Steiner moved to adopt Res. No. 67-25 and the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Carlson and other council members expressed support, citing local experience with aging family members and the value of intentional outreach.
