EDC warns mill closure has 'significant impact and shock' on Siskiyou County economy

Tanya Douse, speaking for the Dispute Economic Development Council, told the board the recent mill closure and related losses have had a "significant impact and shock" on the local economy. She said the EDC prepared a brief economic impact summary by economist Dr. Robert Eiler and is "doing everything we can" to find tools and resources to support retooling and restarting wood manufacturing in the county.
Douse said the EDC has been in regular contact with forest and wood products businesses, has applied for "literally every public grama dollar we can" and is actively working with interested parties to purchase the closed mill site. She said the EDC will produce an incentives packet to be available online that can be used to attract operations to Siskiyou County and thanked staff who have helped with time‑sensitive matters.
"We have applied for literally every public grama dollar we can in an effort to try to bring investment to support the, retooling and restarting of wood manufacturing," Douse said on the record.
