Edgewater council certifies April 1 special election and swears in Eric Greenberg

The Edgewater City Council on April 7 approved Resolution 2025-R-07 to accept the results of the April 1 special election for District 4 and administered the oath of office to the declared winner, Eric Greenberg.

A staff report presented to the council said the city canvassing board met April 3 to certify the election and recorded 2,202 total votes cast. According to the report, Eric Greenberg received 1,353 votes and Renee Sortman received 849 votes; the staff report stated that Greenberg was declared the winner. A resident who spoke during public comment praised the declared winner, calling his campaign "clean, honest, and very transparent." Following public comments and brief council remarks, a council member moved to approve Resolution 2025-R-07 certifying the special election results. The motion passed on a roll-call vote, with recorded affirmative votes from Councilwoman Gillis, Councilman Thomas, Councilwoman Dalbo and Mayor DePue. The council then directed the city clerk to administer the oath of office. Eric Greenberg repeated the oath and was sworn in as the District 4 city council member.

The resolution cited by the council includes standard language providing for severability and an effective date. The council took a brief five-minute recess after the swearing-in.
